The Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick has appealed to Nigerians not to crucify the Super Eagles but keep supporting the team as they face Iceland on Friday at the World Cup in Russia.
It will be recalled that the team lost 2-0 to Croatia on Saturday to send Nigeria bottom of Group D with zero points.
Nigeria have to win their next match against Iceland to have a good chance of qualifying to the knockout stages of the tournament even before facing Argentina in their final Group D match.
However, Pinnick revealed that it’s still possible for Nigeria to beat Iceland If Nigerians rally round the team.
“The Federal Government through the Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, who is here in Russia supporting the team and giving them words of encouragement, has appealed to Nigerians to keep supporting the team.
“The NFF is also appealing to them to continue to encourage the team with kind words and prayers.
“At this tournament, world champions West Germany have lost their first match; Argentina has been held to a draw; 2010 World Cup winners Spain have been held to a draw and; Brazil could not defeat Switzerland.
“France even struggled before defeating Australia with a late goal. So much is still possible, ” he said.
