Representing Nigeria Brought Me Fame And Fortune – Ifeanyi

Former Flying Eagles midfielder, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi recounts some of the sweet memories in this interview with SoccerNet NG’s AUGUSTINE AKHILOMEN on how football changed his life, support he derived from his parent and dream of playing for the Super Eagles.

Ifeanyi who currently plays for Akwa United as a midfielder, recently said he turned down offers from foreign clubs so he could get a chance to represent Nigeria at the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN). When the time comes you can be sure to bet on bet9ja .

How will you describe your journey so far in football?

It has not been easy but then I give God the glory for where I am today.

Talking about giving God the glory, will you say that your parent has not been supporting your football career?

They have been supporting me right from when I started playing till now they still support me with advises and prayers.

Your name Ifeanyi Ifeanyi has similar name pattern like Taiye Taiwo. What is behind the name?

What’s behind the name is that am named after my father because I am the only son with two sisters

So in what way have your parent been supportive to you?

My parents has been supporting me financially in there own little way and advises and prayers

After your exploits at the U20 World Cup, most Nigerians expected you to have stepped up or joined bigger clubs in Europe?

Yes I have always known that the gift God has given me will make men stand for my arrival because in the book of life (BIBLE) God says the gift of man will make way for him and bring him before great men.

But you are part of Manu Garba’s squad to the U-20 World Cup?

I played in the U-20 orange African youth championship and the U-20 FIFA World Cup.


So how will you describe the experience?

My brother, it was a wonderful experience because every player dream is to represent his fatherland in major football events. I think the experience was worthwhile for me and I have learnt a lot and how to face challenges.


Which of the match was your most difficult game in the U-20 World Cup?

The game against Germany and that was the match we lost out of the competition.

Why?

It was so difficult because the cold was much from the blast of the whistle and the Germans didn’t allow us settle in the game.

Some of your team mates that you played with at that tournament are playing in big clubs in Europe. Why haven’t you made a move to Europe?

I am happy that they are all playing in a big clubs in Europe; however, everybody’s destiny is deferent. I know that at God’s appropriate time he will provide my own club abroad.


Do you think representing your country has brought you fame and fortune?

Yes a lot fame and fortune and I thank God for everything he has done for me.

Do you still nurse the dream of playing in the Super Eagles?

Yes ooo. I still nurse the dream of playing in the super eagles and playing in the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE.


Who do you see as your role model in the Super Eagles?


It’s Mikel Obi.

Why?


I love his style of play and he is a great player.
