Barcelona will be taking some positives from Ousmane Dembele’s injury as his time on the sidelines will save the club €10m.
One of the variables agreed as part of his big-money move was that if he played 50 games for the Catalans this season, an additional €10 million euros would be paid to Borussia Dortmund, MARCA reveals.
With the injury suffered at Getafe, the winger could miss up to four months of action, guaranteeing his appearances will fall some way short of the agreed number.
Dembele will be operated on in Finland on Tuesday as he looks to start on his long road to recovery. Before the game against Getafe, Ousmane Dembele was spotted checking on his left hamstring during Barcelona’s warm-up.
The France international’s facial gestures made clear that he felt something during the stretching exercises and this may have led to his thigh injury. The ‘El Golazo de GOL’ TV show released a video which shows Dembele’s grimace while touching the upper part of his leg in the Coliseum.
This was the French forward’s first muscular injury in his career and after the game Ernesto Valverde noted that an experienced player might have recognised these small problems and not risked playing because of it.
