Ex-international Garba Lawal believes the crop of players being assembled by Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr are good enough to overcome the Hawks of Togo and Bafana Bafana of South Africa in any international competitions.
The three-time African champs will play Togo in an international friendly match on June 1 in Paris as part of the team’s preparation for the June 10, 2017, Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa at the God’s will Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
It will be recalled that Nigeria managed a 1-1 draw against tiny Island Corsica last week Friday thanks to Kelechi Iheanacho’s late minute penalty that saved Rohr from tasting first defeat since taking over as coach.
However, ‘Chindo’ as he’s fondly regarded by football lovers in the country, told Soccernet.com.ng that the team could win defeat any team with the right mentality.
“I am really delighted with the crop of players in the Super Eagles camp in France. It goes to show that the technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has so much confidence in youth regardless of the club you play for, ” Garba told Soccernet.com.ng.
“The result against Corsica is not a true reflection of the team but then, I foresee the best of the team coming against the Hawks of Togo.
“To be frank, this team is good enough to overcome South Africa with or without some of the big stars which we all know. It is a matter of getting it right with the approach, of which I believe Rohr has done a good job on.”
