Aleix Vidal in pain after injury vs Alaves |
It was a fine win at the Mendizzorotza stadium as Barcelona comfortably beat Deportivo Alavés 6-0 in La Liga, but the win was soured by the terrible injury sustained by on-form right-back Aleix Vidal late in the game which will now keep him out of the rest of the 2016/2017 season.
Aleix Vidal is currently in the form of his life, his fine assist for Luis Suarez’s opener meant he directly contributed to at least one goal in seven of his last eight appearances for Barcelona.. He’s featured in five consecutive League games for Luis Enrique’s team, but just when he was enjoying his best time at the club, tragedy struck.
With Barça 6-0 up on the 85th minute, Vidal went for a ball towards the corner flag only for Alavés defender Theo Hernandez to charge forward with a terrible challenge which ended up twisting Vidal’s ankle, he signalled the bench immediately, in great pain and it was so clear that it wasn’t going to be nice.
Vidal was taken off on a stretcher and a test was carried out in an hospital in Vitoria which confirmed that the player suffered from a dislocation in his right ankle which would need operation to reduce the swelling, meaning he is expected to be out for five months, that is the rest of the season as confirmed on FC Barcelona’s official site.
It is a really sad news for the entire club, and Spanish football as a while and we can only wish Vidal a speedy recovery.
