Ex international, Christian Chukwu has revealed that the Super Eagles failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations wasn’t a good thing to behold.
The bi-annual tournament which will commence this weekend, will see the best of African teams compete for honours in Gabon without the Super Eagles.
Nigeria has won the title three times, 1980, 1994 and 2013 in South Africa, where the team defeated Burkina Faso 1-0 in the final.
However, Chukwu, who was part of victorious Green Eagles that won the trophy for the first time in Lagos, told Soccernet.com.ng that he’s unhappy Nigeria won’t be at the AFCON competition.
“I can’t really believe that the Super Eagles won’t be participating at the Africa Cup of Nations. There is no argument that the AFCON isn’t anyone’s berth right, however, I just think we deserve to be in Gabon,” Chukwu told Soccernet.com.ng
“Imagine the form of our players at the World Cup qualifiers and you could be forced to think Nigeria should’ve been part of the competition. I am really not happy that the Super Eagles won’t be in Gabon but then, there is no need for us to cry over spilled milk.”
