The Nigeria women team ended the 2016 football calendar as Africa’s best team after moving up two spot to 35 in the world.
In the Women’s Rankings released by FIFA on Friday, eight-time African champions, Nigeria leapfrogged both Wales and Romania from the 37th spot it was ranked in August with 1592points to 35th with 1613 points.
Nigeria leads the Africa Top 5 followed by Ghana (1499pts), Cameroon (1484pts), Equatorial Guinea (1446pts) and South Africa(1443pts).
The USA continue to lead the way, winning all six of their games since the last ranking was published, scoring an astonishing 39 goals in those half-dozen matches – with Christen Press bagging nine – as their year concluded with a flurry of impressive victories.
While two countries, Andorra and Rwanda, make their maiden appearance in the Ranking.
