Nigeria’s Super Falcons finished as Group B leaders after beating Kenya 4-0 in their last group match of the ongoing 10th African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) tournament, by setting up a semi-final clash with South Africa’s Bayana Bayana.
Falcons opened scoring through Ngozi Okobi three minutes into the game; Faith Ikidi doubled the lead from a header in the 6th minute. Arsenal Ladies forward, Asisat Oshoala scored her sixth goal of the tournament in the 52nd minute, while super substitute striker Desire Oparanozie completed the rout for the Florence Omagbemi tutored side in the 88th minute, to end the match 4-0 at full time.
In the other Group B game, Ghana defeated Mali 3-1 to finish as group’s runner-up, and consequently set-up a semi-final berth with hosts Cameroon. Super Falcons are gunning for their eighth AWCON title, and are also looking good to retain the title they won two years ago in Namibia.
Nigeria will take on South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the second semi final on Tuesday, while hosts Cameroon will tackle Ghana’s Black Queens, who defeated Mali 3-1 in the other final match of Group B on Saturday.
