FC Barcelona striker Luis Suárez has received his European Golden Shoe award for being the top goalscorer across all football leagues in the World for the 2015/2016 campaign.
Suarez netted an astonishing 40 goals for FC Barcelona in La Liga last season which was the highest scored by any football player in every league in the world. With La Liga being a top league, the rules state that every goal be counted as two points which means Luis Suárez finished the campaign on 80 points.
His closest rival was Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo who scored 36 and 35 goals in the Serie A and La Liga last season, hence lie on 72 and 70 points respectively.

EUROPEAN GOLDEN SHOE 2015/2017

1. Luis Suarez (Barcelona) – 40 goals in La Liga – 80 points

2. Gonzalo Higuaín (Napoli) – 36 goals in Serie A – 72 points

3. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) – 35 goals in La Liga – 70 points

4. Jonas (Benfica) – 32 goals in Portuguese League – 64 points

5. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) – 30 goals in Bundesliga – 60 points
Lionel Messi finished on 8th position with 26 goals and 52 points behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Islam Slimani.
The win means Luis Suárez has now won two European Golden Shoe Awards with his first award arriving in 2013/2014 where he scored 31 League goals for Liverpool in the English Premier League. Suarez also finished La Liga as joint highest assist maker with Lionel Messi on 16 assists. He netted an astonishing 59 goals in 52 games in all competitions last season.
Luis Suarez becomes the third Barcelona player to pick up the award after Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario got it after his only season at the club in 1996/1997 scoring 34 goals and Lionel Messi won it on three occasions in 2009/2010, 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 scoring 34 goals, 50 goals and 46 goals respectively, his 50 goals with 100 points the highest ever in the award’s history.
Suarez is on the right right track to defending his award this season as he tops La Liga goalscorers chart with 6 goals joint with Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann.
