Arsenal earned their first pre-season win courtesy a late strike from Chuba Akpom against the Major League Soccer (MLS) AllStars.
The 19-year-old with Nigerian roots started the game from the bench just like Alex Iwobi while the MLS AllStars had Gunners chief tormentor Didier Drogba in their line-up alongside Italian football legend Andrea Pirlo, former Tottenham Hotspurs star Dos Santos, and Spanish star David Villa.
Arsene Wenger’s men who opened their pre-season with a 1-1 draw against Lens began well as Costa Rican Joel Campbell won a penalty – picked himself up and tucked it away with great aplomb.
However, the led did not last long as in-form Drogba made it 1-1 when he drilled the ball past former teammate at Chelsea Petr Cech just before the end of the first half.
The start of the second half witnessed some changes as Alex Iwobi and Chuba Akpom were introduced and they added a bit more spark in the game and it was the later who was returning from a loan spell with Hull City that the most impact with the winning goal as he finished off a fine pass from Nacho Monreal to end the match 2-1 in favor of the North Londoners.
The progress of the youngster would delight manager Arsene Wenger who has the player firmly in his plans for this season.
