Leicester win first EPL title
It is a dream come true for Leicester City if at all they ever dreamt of such a thing, Claudio Ranieri’s men have officially been crowned champions of the league for the first time in their history after second place Tottenham Hotspur spurned a 2-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Chelsea in Monday night’s kickoff, a triumph that comes just a year after the same team were battling for survival from the relegation zone. The foxes couldn’t wrap up the title at the Old trafford on Sunday after being held to a 1-1 draw by Louis Van Gaal’s men, but they didn’t even have to wait much long to pop their champagne after Spurs couldn’t close the gap on them with a win against Chelsea. Premier league top scorer Harry Kane opened the scoring for Pochettino’s team 35 minutes into the game with a fantastic goal. Son Heung-Min made it 2-0 for Spurs just at the stroke of halftime before defender Gary Cahill pulled one back for the blues on 58th minutes. It seemed like Spurs would be running away with all three points but Eden Hazard was on hand to end their hopes of winning the premier league title as the Belgian netted 7 minutes from time with only his 3rd goal this campaign. The result meant that Leicester City produced one of the biggest shock in the history of world football by winning the league against all odds. They’ve been top of the premier league for 17 consecutive weeks without dropping and their triumph only shows that anything is possible when it comes to the outcome of the beautiful game. It is Leicester’s first ever title, they were a second-tier team two seasons ago and pulled a miraculous run to escape relegation last season, just wonderful. Congratulations to Leicester City that will never be forgotten, it will be talked about in decades, Congrats foxes!
