Super Eagles and Watford striker Odion Ighalo has bagged the award of the Premier League’s African Player award for the month of December.
The award organisers, New African Soccer, disclosed that Ighalo played so convincingly in the month as there was“very little need for a shortlist to be announced”.
Tunde Adelakun who is the award director said:“Ighalo spent December scoring goals for his team. He scored in all six games played in a packed December schedule of fixtures, including games against Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham. This is a very remarkable feat.”
The director also revealed that in the little time the awards has been organised, Ighalo becomes the first individual to have won it twice, since he won that of October 2015.
However, reports in some quarters that Watford striker Odion Ighalo may be heading out of Vicarage road in Januaryhas triggered the reaction of Troy Deeney, the club’s captain.
According to Deeney, Ighalo staying at Watford beyond January will be more profitable for Watford as the club will earn £200 million.
