Tragedy struck in Kano yesterday, December 6, as a former Heartland and Kano Pillars forward Abdul Haruna slumped and died on the pitch during a football match.
The ugly incident occurred when the 27-year-old forward was playing for Kano Professionals against a selected amateur team in Kano in a friendly game.
Reacting after the incident, Kano Pillars media manager Idris Malikwa announced that the entire football community in Kano are in shock over his demise.
Malikawa said:“Abdul Haruna died Sunday while playing in a friendly match between Kano Professionals and a selected amateur team in Kano. He was moving with the ball when he slumped and died on the pitch.
“He fell down unchallenged and was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital before he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
“This is a huge shock to the entire football family in Kano, we never expected this.
“He will be buried on Monday according to Islamic rites in Kano.”
Haruna left behind Surayya, his wife whom he married in 2012. The union is blessed with a baby boy.
He had a stint with a club in Vietnam, Song Lam Nghe and had come back to Kano to enjoy the Christmas with his friends and family members before the unfortunate incident.
The cause of his death is yet to be determined as at the time of filing this report.
