How Nigerians Fared Across England

Action returned in Europe once again with various clubs in action. Nigerian players were particularly well represented, featuring in games as their clubs bids to secure a reputable position in the league table.

On this note SoccerNet Nigeria captures the performance of Nigerian players abroad in England.

CHELSEA 1-3 LIVERPOOL
At Stamford Bridge, Nigerian Veteran midfield player John Obi Mikel was in action for 70 minutes and made way for Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas while Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe joined the fray in the 76th minutes as he replaced Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino. He assisted Christian Benteke’s goal in the 83rd minute. Mikel was booked in the 66th minute.

MANCHESTER CITY 2-1 NORWICH CITY
Kelechi Iheanacho made his first Premier league start and was substituted for Raheem Sterling in the 54th minute as City narrowly won 2-1.

NEWCASTLE UNITED 0-0 STOKE CITY
Recuperating Peter Odemwingie was not listed in Stoke city’s match day squad as the game at St. James Park ended goalless.

SWANSEA CITY 0-3 ARSENAL
Alex Iwobi made a late cameo for Arsenal as he replaced Mesut Ozil in the 90th minute as the Gunners defeated Welsh side Swansea with a convincing 3-0 win.

WATFORD 2-0 WEST HAM UNITED
Odion Jude Ighalo scored a brace in each half in the 39th and 48th minute and was substituted in the 86th minute for Adlene Guedioura while West Ham forward Victor Moses lasted 45th minutes and made way for Enner Valencia as Watford defeated 10 man West Ham United 2-0.

WEST BROM WICH ALBION 2-3 LEICESTER CITY
Nigerian striker Victor Anichebe was not listed in West Brom Squad as the Baggies lost 2-3 at home to In-form Leicester City.

IN ENGLAND (CHAMPIONSHIP)

BIRMINGHAM CITY0-2 WOLVERAMPTON WANDERERS
Dream team invitee Viv-Solomon Otabor was benched for the entire duration of the game for Birmingham City. Defender Dominic Iorfa lasted the distance for Wolves while talented winger Seyi Ojo came off the bench in the 74th minute for Nathan Byrne and doubled Wolves lead in the 84th minute. Nigeria’s Carl Ikeme was left out on the bench for the entire 90minutes.

IPSWICH TOWN 0 – 0 CARDIFF CITY
Sammy Ameobi lasted 74th minutes and made way for Craig Noone as his side Cardiff City drew 0-0 with Ipswich Town.

MILTON KEYNES DONS 0 – 2 HULL CITY
Hull City striker Chuba Akpom assisted Ahmed El Mohamady’s goal in the 19th minute. Akpom lasted 71st minute and was replaced by Mohamed Diame, Moses Odubajo lasted the distance but was booked in the 9th minute while Sone Alukowas not listed in Hull City match day Squad.

READING 1-0 BRIGHT HOVE ALBION
Talented left back Jordan Obita (21) was on Reading’s bench for the entire duration of the game.

PRESTON NORTH END 0-0 BOLTON WANDERERS
Bolton’s defender Derik Osede Prieto was in action for 83rd minute and was replaced by Francesco Pisano while teammate Shola Ameobi lasted 74th minute of the game and made way for Gary Madine as the match ended goalless.
