It is no longer news that the Kano State Government recently sacked Okey Emordi as the head coach of the Nigerian Premier league defending champions, Kano Pillars.
Our source who pleaded anonymity said the fans were tired of Emordi’s poor results. It was also because they were clamouring for an ‘Hausa man’ to take over the job.
“You know, Emordi is earning 1.7 million naira per month as salary; and the government is tired of giving him the money without results. He has really relaxed and the club is doing badly, which is a shame”;our source explained
“The fans also want an Hausa man on that seat. They want someone who can make a turn around and help the team retain the trophy; the sack is long overdue”,the source added.
The management of the elite club had earlier stated that he was sacked because of poor performance. Obviously, Pillars has not been doing well since the commencement of the 2015 league season, owing to the fact that the team was attacked by armed bandits on their way to an away-game against Heartland of Owerri. This also affected their continental performance which they crashed out early.
However, there are speculations that Baba Ganaru, a former Kano Pillars coach and the current Nasarawa United head coach who led the defending champions, Pillars, to win the league title last season before he departed the club, may likely return.
Kano Pillars is a four-time consecutive winner of the Nigeria Premier League.
