Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins underwent a successful surgical operation on Tuesday to repair his broken nose.
The former Inter Milan star suffered a broken nose in a collision with Clint Irwin during Seattle Sounders’ 1-0 win over Colorado.
Martins got kicked and shoved during the game and had to momentarily leave the field to change his bloody shirt.
But the striker had surgery on Tuesday to address the issue, and it seems almost certain Martins will miss at least Saturday’s game at Sporting Kansas City.
Broken noses generally need to be realigned within 14 days of the damage, otherwise doctors may need to wait for the bones to fully heal before re-breaking them before realigning. Presumably Martins and the Sounders opted for the first choice, but there’s no official word on that nor on a possible timeline for his return.
Chad Barrett has played in previous matches Martins has missed.
