Several Super Eagles players were
involved with their respective clubs in the European leagues over the weekend.
We take a look at how they fared.
English Premier League
Chelsea 1 Liverpool
1
Stamford Bridge
Super Eagles midfielder, Mikel Obi
played 90 minutes as Liverpool held Chelsea
to 1-1 at the Bridge. The blues who were crowned champions last weekend opted
to rest some players and Mikel was a beneficiary as he started his first match
for months having recovered from injury. John Terry opened the scoring in the 5th
minute, while Steve Gerard on his last visit to the ground scored the equaliser
for the reds. Nigerian born Jordan Ibe was a 71st minute substitute for Liverpool.
Stoke 3 Tottenham Hotspur 0
Britannia Stadium
Osazee Odemwingie played the last
five minutes as Stoke
City ran out comfortable
winners against Spurs. The Super Eagles forward is still making his comeback
from eight months out with a ligament injury.
Newcastle United 1 West Brom 1
St James Park
Victor Anichebe scored for West Brom in the draw away at Newcastle United on
Saturday. Perez equalised for Newcastle
before half time as both side settled for the draw. Brown Ideye was an unused
substitute for West Brom. While Sammy Ameobi
played the last five minutes for the Magpies as their relegation fears
continued.
Hull City
0 Burnley 1
KC Stadium
Sone Aluko played for 66 minutes before being substituted as
his side suffered another defeat to relegated Burnley
which leaves them in the relegation zone. Despite hitting the woodwork twice
through Robbie Brady, Hull
City never looked like
scoring. Danny Ings scored the winner for the Clarets from a corner kick.
Spanish Premiera Liga
Levante 2 Altetico Madrid 2
Estadio Ciudad de Valencia
Nigerian forward Kalu Uche opened
the scoring for Levante as they drew 2-2 against Altetico Madrid. He scored in the 32nd minute of the
match, before he was substituted after the hour mark. Fernando Torres denied
Levante the win when he leveled the scores ten minutes from time. Levante lie
in 14th place in la liga with 36points.
Almeria 1 Malaga 2
Estadio Mediterraneo
Super Eagles midfielder Ramon Azeez
was a substitute for Marin Molina in the 57th minute as his team slumped to a
1-2 defeat at home. The defeat leaves them hovering dangerously above the
relegation zone. They are just one point of it, with 32points.
German bundesliga
Cologne 2 Schalke 0
RheinEnergie Stadion
Cologne and Super Eagles striker Anthony
Ujah who will be leaving for Werden Bremen
in the summer was a substitute on Sunday, as his side consolidated their 10th
position in the league with another win. Ujah has scored ten goals this season,
and he entered the fray in the 59th minute for Dusan Svento.
Italian Seria A
Lazio 1 Inter Milan 2
Stadio Olimpico
Ogenyi Onazi was an unused
substitute as his Lazio team slumped to a 1-2 defeat at home to Roberto
Mancini’s Inter. Antonio Candreva opened the scoring in the 8th minute mark,
but Hernanes curled home a free kick to equalise, and after a missed penalty by
Inter’s Mauro Icardi, Hernanes pounced again to score the winner in the 80th
minute. The defeat is a setback for Lazio’s hope to finish in second place, the
last automatic Champions League spot. Nigeria’s Joel Obi was not in the Inter
squad for the match.
Scottish Premiership
Aberdeen 0 Celtic 1
Pittodrie Stadium
Super Eagles defender, Efe Ambrose
played only eight minutes as Champions Celtic defeated Aberdeen from a goal scored by midfielder Scot
Brown in the 49th minute. Stuart Armstrong gave way for Efe Ambrose in the 82nd
minute as the top two sides in the Scottish top flight met on Sunday.
