Asisat Oshoala: I’m surprised to be considered among the Best

2014 African Women's Footballer of the Year and Nigerian International
Asisat Oshoala has expressed her shock at having been nominated for the BBC’s
Women's Footballer of the Year award.

Oshoala who had a sensational 2014 was listed among the five
nominees for the prestigious award. The other four fantastic female footballers
are Veronica Boquete (Spain and Frankfurt) Nadine Kessler (Germany and
Wolfsburg), Kim Little (Scotland and Seattle Reign) and Marta (Brazil and
Rosengard).

Oshoala said: “I worked hard last year but I am
surprised to be nominated and I feel very appreciated. This award is a very
good thing for women's football. It can really help us by encouraging other
countries to support their ladies more and treat them the same way they treat
the men.”

After winning both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball at the
2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup where she helped Nigeria to the final of the
competitions, Oshoala made the step up to the Super Falcons. In a matter of
weeks, she had cause to celebrate again.

Asisat was easily the best player at the African Women's
Championship as she claimed the Golden Ball in her debut appearance at the
continental championships, with Nigerian winning the trophy.

CAF recognised her talent and contributions as she
subsequently won the African Women's Footballer of the Year award and the African
Women's Youth Player of the Year award, the first time any female player would
grab both honours at the same time.

Definitely one of the best young players in the world,
Asisat Oshoala has every chance of winning the
