Former Nigeria international Jonathan Akpoborie has stated that the Super Eagles’ performance against South Africa in Sunday’s international friendly match which ended 1-1 should be a cause for concern.
CSKA Moscow forward Ahmed Musa, looked to have sealed the win for the Eagles when he scored a brilliant goal five minutes from the end of the match, but Bongani Zungu struck on 94th minutes to make sure the spoils were shared.
In a chat with Sports Radio, 88.9, Brila FM, Akpoborie said that the Eagles lacked pace.
“It’s good that the Eagles did not lose the game especially after the defeat to Uganda a few days back. But we should be worried with their performance because their pace was slow, there was no plan and the goal scored by Ahmed Musa came from individual brilliance.”
He however praised the performance of Leon Balogun who made his third appearance for the Eagles.
“I think Leon Balogun played well but I feel he should add a little bit of strength in his game since he is now playing for Nigeria.”
