SoccerNet Nigeria: Yakubu
Days ago, reports had it that QPR’s manager was interested in moving Yakubu Aiyegbeni to QPR, according to Complete Sports, Redknapp has discarded Yakubu and is now interested in signing West Ham’s striker Mauro Zarate.

Redknapp, was reported to have made a three-man shortlist of Yakubu, Mauro Zarate and Jermain Defoe lined up as a back up signing,in case they are unable to land their first choice striker, Charlie Austin, in the winter.

The QPR manager however seems to have settled for the West Ham striker, Mauro Zarate, who has been scheduled to undergo a medical with Rangers on 2nd of January.
With Aiyegbeni’s contract already expired at his Qatari club, Al Rayyan ,he can only hope to get a deal as quick as possible, considering his age. He enjoyed a top notch career in England playing for Portsmouth, Middlesborough, Everton, Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers before moving to China in 2012 where he played for Guangzhou R&F.
The 32-year-old holds the record of being Nigeria’s third highest goal scorer in history[ see Top 12 Highest Goal Scorers In The History OF Nigerian Football] with 21 goals from 57 appearances for the Super Eagles.
