Victor Valdes’ proposed move to Liverpool has collapsed after the former Barcelona goalkeeper rejected a trial period with the club.
Reports explain that Reds boss, Brendan Rodgers wanted Valdes to spend four days with them at Melwood before offering a contract, so they could assess the extent of the goalkeeper’s recovery from a serious knee injury which kept him out for much of last season. But the Spain international
, who is trying to secure a deal after leaving Barcelona in the summer, was reluctant to go “on trial”.
Valdes, 32, played 535 games for Barcelona in all competitions, during a twelve year stint with the club’s first-team. He was part of the side that won six La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues, as well as numerous other honours during a dominant decade for the Catalans.
He also earned 20 caps for Spain, despite regularly playing second fiddle to Real Madrid stopper Iker Casillas, and former Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina. He was part of the squad that won the 2010 World Cup, and Euro 2012.
