Super Eagles striker risks missing remainder of season due to ‘lower leg’ injury

Josh Maja could miss the rest of the season as coach Tony Mowbray has revealed that the Super Eagles striker is yet to recover from his ‘lower leg’ injury, Soccernet.ng reports.

Maja has been out of action since the start of January when he suffered a lower leg injury. Before his injury, he was in top form, registering 12 goals and two assists in 26 appearances.

Due to his injury, he had to undergo surgery As  the time of the injury and that has kept him out of action from West Brom’s last 14 games across all competitions.

At the time of his injury, Soccernet.ng reported that Maja would be out of action until February at least. However, the Super Eagles striker is yet to return to action.

West Brom coach Tony Mowbray has now shared an update on the Super Eagles star. The English manager has revealed that Maja is still recovering from his injury. But the 26-year-old striker could miss the rest of the regular season.

“I saw Maja on Tuesday, happy, nice and smiley but still feels as if he is a little bit away but hopefully if we can extend the season he might have a part to play,” Mowbray said per express and star.

“I’m sure it has been tough. He’s been in a brace thing on his left most of the time I’ve been here.

“When I bump into him in the corridor and ask how he is, he’s pretty positive. I think he’s looking forward to getting back and showing us what he can do… You’d have to say Maja is a miss to the football club with his goals that he obviously could bring and has brought already the first half of the season.”

Josh Maja can only make the playoffs

West Brom have only seven games until the end of the season, and Maja will be out for all those games.

Nonetheless, if things go well, he could return in time for the Championship playoffs. Of course, that would only happen if West Brom make it, as they currently sit sixth which is the last playoff spot.

If West Brom fail to make the playoff, Maja would have to wait until pre-season before he returns to football action.
