“A big moment”- Paul Onuachu sends cute message to Genk as Smurfs target Jupiler League title

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu has sent a goodwill message to Genk in their push to win the Belgian Jupiler Pro League title, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Belgian Super Lig playoffs started last weekend, and Genk started on a good note, with a handsome 4-0 win over Gent at Cegeka Arena. Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare was brilliant in that game, as he scored.

The win put the Smurfs at the top of the Jupiler League table with a four-point lead over reigning champions Club Brugge.

However, Genk still have a log way to go before they are confirmed as kings of the Belgian top-flight. Still, they will have some confidence, as they have been great this season.

In fact, Genk have not looked this good since the 2020/21 season, when Onuachu scored 33 goals for them in the run-up to their second-place finish in the Jupiler League.

The Super Eagles striker left Genk two years ago, but he still has a soft spot for the club. Following their win over Gent last weekend, Onuachu took to Instagram to wish the Smurfs goodluck in their push to win the playoffs.

“Goodluck to Genk in the title race. A big moment for the club to go finish the job,” Onuachu wrote.

How has Paul Onuachu fared since leaving Genk?

Paul Onuachu has had a topsy-turvy run since he left Genk two years ago. The Super Eagles star had a tough first season, as he could not help them avoid relegation.

Then, he spent last season at Trabzonspor, where he registered 17 goals and four assists in 25 appearances in Turkey.

But this season, he has struggled. He did not enjoy a lot of playing time until the second half of the season. Onuachu now looks set to go down with Southampton as they sit at the bottom of the Premier League.

However, he might seek a transfer in the summer due to the volatile nature of Southampton. With his brilliance and potential, he could get a decent club.
