Osayi-Samuel: Fenerbahçe star puts ‘Premier League ambition’ on hold with new comment

Super Eagles defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has hinted at a possible contract extension with the Turkish giants, Fenerbahce SK, Soccernet.ng reports. 

Osayi-Samuel has been linked with a return to the English Premier League with a few months left in his contract with the Istanbul-based club.

Meanwhile, earlier reports suggest that the Nigeria international has signed a pre-contract agreement with Nottingham Forest with Crystal Palace also looking hijacking the deal.

Despite this transfer Speculations, Osayi-Samuel, ahead of Fenerbahce’s clash with the Glasgow Rangers, have puts all thoughts about a Premier League move on hold.

Fenerbahce Defender on EPL Ambition

The former Queens Park Rangers wingback earlier told Soccernet.ng about his ambitions to return to the Premier League after his contract expiration with Fenerbahce.

“I think everyone knows that my ambition is to play English football, to play in the [English] Premier League, you know. No disrespect they [fenerbahçe sk] have done some much for me there [in Turkey]. But my ambition is to play in the Premier League. So when I feel that the time is the right time for me to go, I will take it.” he told Soccernet.ng.

Meanwhile, things seems to be taking a different turn as the Nigerian defender aims to spend more time with the Şükrü Saracoğlu outfits.

Osayi-Samuel opens up on contract situation

Speaking about his future vs Fenerbahce’s official site, the Nigerian international admitted that while he has faced challenges this season, including injuries and limited playing time, he remains committed to Fenerbahçe for now.

“I had some serious injuries. I didn’t get any playing time in some games. The coach made that decision. It was a bit disappointing for me. I really want to play for this team. My contract ends at the end of the year. I will talk to the club president about it. They said they will offer me a new contract. Let’s see what happens at the end of the season, what things show.”

Premier League move on hold?

Osayi-Samuel has been on the radar of several Premier League clubs, with reports previously linking him to teams Brentford FC, AFC Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and a host of others.

However, his latest comments suggest he is prioritising discussions with Fenerbahçe before making any decisions about his future.

The 27-year-old has been a key player for the Turkish side since his arrival from Queens Park Rangers in 2021, where he has now become an important figure in their defense.

Should Osayi-Samuel Extend His Contract?

Fenerbahçe are reportedly keen to extend Osayi-Samuel’s stay at the club, but the Nigerian may wait until the end of the season to assess his options.

With the summer transfer window approaching, interest from England could still play a role in his final decision.

For now, the Super Eagles defender appears focused on finishing the season strong with Fenerbahçe, as the club continues its push for a league title victory as well as Europa League progress.
