“His legs are gone”- Mikel Obi tells Manchester United to let go of star midfielder

Super Eagles legend Mikel Obi has advised Manchester United to let go of Casemiro, as he believes that the Brazilian midfielder is already past his prime, Soccernet.ng reports.

Casemiro joined Manchester United from Spanish La Liga champions Real Madrid in 2022, in a deal worth €70.65 million. And it is been a topsy-turvy stay for him at the club.

After an impressive first season that saw him register seven goals and six assists in 51 appearances for the Red Devils, the Brazilian star has fallen off badly.

Casemiro has struggled badly since last season and has struggled for playing time since the arrival of Manuel Ugarte.

The 32-year-old midfielder started in midfield in Manchester United’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on Monday, as he was run ragged in midfield in the first half.

Following that performance, Super Eagles legend Mikel has criticized Casemiro heavily. He believes the former Real Madrid star is past his prime and needs to be moved on.

“In the Premier League, you will get found out. The Premier League is the most difficult League, fast paced and dynamic. It will throw everything at you,” Mikel said on the Obi One podcast.

“So if you’re not young enough, you’re not quick enough, you’re not mobile enough, you’re not energetic enough to cope with the Premier League, you’re going to get found out. And that’s what keeps happening to Casemiro.

“If he comes in and have one good game, it doesn’t mean that he’s changed, he’s still the same player.

“I love the guy, he’s played for Real Madrid, he’s won everything in his career. But his legs are gone, Manchester United need to get another midfielder.”

Mikel nearly moved to Manchester United in 2005, but Chelsea later won his signature. He went on to spend eleven years at the club before leaving in 2017.

He has been heavily critical of Manchester United recently due to their poor performances.
