“The environment”- Ademola Lookman reveals vital catalysts in CAF POTY success

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has stated that joining Atalanta in 2022 played a big role in his winning the 2024 CAF Player of the Year Award, Soccernet.ng reports.

27-year-old Nigerian star Lookman became the 6th Nigerian to win the CAF Player of the Year award on Monday, and it was quite a memorable moment for him and his family.

For most of  Lookman’s career, he struggled to make a big impact. He played at Charlton Athletic, Fulham, RB Leipzig, Leicester City, and Everton, but he hardly left big impressions.

However, things have turned around for him since he joined Atalanta two-year ago. The Nigeria international has produced 43 goals for 23 assists in 97 appearances for the club. His hattrick was also key in guiding La Dea to the UEFA Europa League title last season.

Now, in a new interview, Lookman has praised and credited the homely environment ar Atalanta for his growth.

“I think the environment that the club (Atalanta) gave me has been very key to obviously my growth as a player,” Lookman told Flashscore.

“And also, just timing, you know, I’ve always believed in myself and to be able to achieve great things. But, yeah, the time has come and, you know, just blessed to be here.”

Lookman has already started the session well, and he will be looking to continue with his impressive performances.
