Why I like Nigeria’s Lookman more than Napoli’s Kvaratskhelia – Retired Brazilian striker

Former Torino star João “Pia” Inácio has revealed that he prefers Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman over Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, citing Lookman’s versatility as a key factor, Soccernet.ng reports.

Both Lookman and Kvaratskhelia have dazzled Serie A fans over the past two seasons, delivering consistently high-quality performances for club and country.

Kvaratskhelia was instrumental in Napoli’s triumph in Serie A last year, while this summer saw him help Georgia qualify for their first-ever European Championship.

Meanwhile, Lookman had a standout year with Atalanta, helping the club lift their first Europa League title in May after leading Nigeria to the Africa Cup of Nations final in Côte d’Ivoire.

His efforts earned him a place on the 2024 Ballon d’Or shortlist, where he finished 14th — ranking as the top African player and second-best Serie A performer, just behind Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

Ademola Lookman

João Inácio, who enjoyed a distinguished career in Italy, shared his admiration for Lookman in an interview with Radio Marte.

“Who do I choose between him and Kvaratskhelia? Personally, I like the Nigerian better, because he can also play inside the field,” Brazil’s Inácio stated.

“The Georgian is devastating if he stays wide, with his feet on the line, while Lookman can also play as a second striker: I prefer versatile players.”

This weekend, Lookman and Kvaratskhelia are set to face off as Atalanta take on Napoli in a top-flight clash.

Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia

Under new manager Antonio Conte, Napoli have enjoyed a blistering start to the season and currently lead Serie A.

However, Inácio, who has played for both clubs, believes Lookman could pose a unique threat to Napoli.

“What dangers does Napoli risk running into? Atalanta can surprise you in attack because they have players who can change roles during the game and move to different positions,” he explained.

“I’m thinking of Lookman, for example, who moves a lot.”

Lookman has continued his impressive form this season, netting four goals and providing four assists in just seven matches for Atalanta.

As a top contender for the African Footballer of the Year award, Lookman’s talents are clear, and his performances have only reinforced why he’s catching the eye of icons like Inácio.
