“Shouldn’t have been like this”- Osimhen rues Galatasaray’s draw against AZ Alkmaar

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has rued Galatasaray’s disappointing 1-1 draw against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen led the line for Galatasaray when they played Dutch side AZ Alkmaar at the AFAS Stadion on Thursday. The game was expected to be a tough one for the Turkish champions, and AZ Alkmaar lived up to the billing.

The Eredivisie scored in the second minute, courtesy of Sven Mijnans. However, Osimhen equalized for his side just before the break.

Galatasaray dominated proceedings in the second half, but they just lacked the cutting edge in the end. They thought they had grabbed all three points in stoppage time, after Osimhen put the ball in the net. But it was ruled out by VAR due to a foul in the buildup to the goal.

After the game, Osimhen was quite disappointed, as he believed Galatasaray could have gotten more from the fixture.

“We conceded a goal very early, it was a goal we didn’t expect. After the goal, we got more of the ball than our opponents, although they missed some chances,” Osimhen said, per Skorer.

“This score shouldn’t have been like this. We clearly missed some chances. But at least we fought till the end, we wanted it and that was a good message.

“We lost points, but we will advance to the final. We will do everything to get the cup. We talked about that inside, we will fight till the end.”

Galatasaray’s next game is a Turkish Super Lig game against Eyupspor on Sunday, and they will be looking to return to winning ways.
