Nigerians abroad: Harry Kane leads Bayern Munich past Onyeka’s Augsburg; Okonkwo, Nkama, Godwin shine

Action returns across the top leagues in Europe and Asia as the November international break came to an end with several Nigerian footballers involved on Friday.

In the Spanish La Liga, Christantus Uche delivered another impressive showing as Getafe soared to a fine 2-0 win over Real Valladolid.

Cameroon’s Allan-Roméo Nyom scored one and assisted the other within three second-half minutes as Getafe secured their first win in six games.

It was a difficult evening for Frank Onyeka and Augsburg in the German Bundesliga as they fell to a tough 3-0 victory against Bayern Munich.

Onyeka was a tireless worker in midfield as Augsburg held on for over an hour inside the Allianz Arena but Harry Kane bagged a hat-trick – including two penalties – to lead Vincent Kompany’s men to their ninth win of the campaign.

In the Armenian Premier League, 18-year-old Nigerian midfielder Izuchukwu Okonkwo and Guinean attacker Momo Toure were on target for Van in their 3-2 home defeat at the hands of BKMA.

Sodiq Awujoola was the hero as Pyramids roared back from a goal deficit to seal a 3-1 victory over National Bank in the Egyptian Premier League.

Ghana’s Ishahaku Yakubu set up Mohamed Abdel Ghani to open the scoring for National Bank on the stroke of halftime but Mostafa Fathi equalised for the hosts five minutes after the break.

Awujoola took over shortly after with two goals in the 52nd and 74th minute to inspire Pyramids to their second win of the season.

With seven points from their first three games, Pyramids share joint-top of the league with Al Ahly and Al Ittihad.

Awujoola only joined Pyramids in October on loan from Ceramica Cleopatra after an excellent 2023/24 campaign when he netted 11 goals in 28 league games.

In Saudi Arabia’s Women’s Premier League, Super Falcons star Ashleigh Plumptre and Al Ittihad had no solutions to the problem posed by Al Nassr as the visitors went away with a 3-1 win.

Super Eagles forward Saviour Godwin set up Zimbabwe’s Knowledge Musona to score Al Okhdood’s equaliser in their 1-1 draw with Al Shabab in the Saudi League.

In the Swiss Challenge League, Chinwendu Nkama assisted Bellinzo’s 95th-minute equaliser in their thrilling 2-2 draw away to Etoile Carouge.
