Arsenal-trained Super Eagles star produces MOTM performance for Barnsley in League One

The Super Eagles star has been struggling in recent weeks, but he got an opportunity and utilized it well

Super Eagles midfielder Kelechi Nwakali got off the bench to produce a Man of the Match performance for Barnsley in their 1-1 draw against Cambridge United, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nwakali was named on the bench for Barnsley when they welcomed Cambridge United to Oakswell for their League One clash.

The Super Eagles star has struggled to get game time since he joined the club during the summer transfer window. However, he got lucky on Saturday, as Max Watters sustained an injury just eight minutes into the fixture.

Nwakali was introduced afterwards, and he put up a decent show. He registered an 89 percent pass accuracy, two shots off target, five tackles, and two goal attempts.

The 26-year-old midfielder was so impressive that he was voted as the Man of the Match by Barnsley fans.

Nwakali will be looking to build on his performance and become an important member of the Barnsley team. He has to find a way to start playing regular football if he wants to return to being a regular player for Nigeria.

Barnsley currently sit fifth in the English League One, with 26 points from 15 games, six points behind Wycombe who sit at the summit. Their next game is against Wycombe next Saturday.
