Victor Boniface’s boss heavily linked to Manchester United role amid Ten Hag exit talks

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has come under fire following the subpar performance of his team in the start of the 2024-25 campaign

Victor Boniface’s current manager, Xabi Alonso, has emerged as a strong candidate for the Manchester United coaching role amid growing uncertainty over the future of underperforming Erik Ten Hag, Soccernet.ng reports.

The former Ajax coach, Ten Hag, is under intense scrutiny following a disappointing start to the 2024-25 season. Despite a commanding 7-0 victory over League One side Barnsley, Manchester United have struggled in recent weeks, failing to win in their last five matches, including a demoralising 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Transfer News Live, citing TodoFichajes, Alonso has been identified as the top choice to take over at Old Trafford should the United board decide to part ways with Ten Hag.

The Spanish tactician’s recent success at Bayer Leverkusen—where he guided the team to a historic Bundesliga and DFB Pokal double in the 2023-24 campaign—has attracted widespread attention across Europe.

Reports also suggest that other prominent names, including Gareth Southgate, Thomas Frank, and Thomas Tuchel, are being linked to the role, potentially setting up a competitive race for the job.

Among these candidates, Alonso stands out due to his remarkable achievements with Leverkusen, and his tactical acumen has made him a sought-after figure.

Should Alonso make the move to Manchester, there’s speculation that he could seek to bring along some of his key players from Germany.

Victor Boniface, who Alonso lured to Leverkusen from Royale Union SG, might be one of those he would consider as part of his potential squad restructuring at Old Trafford.
