NFF President assures Nigerians of 2026 FIFA World Cup spot

President of the Nigerian Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, has backed the Super Eagles to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.

The three-time AFCON Champions are yet to win a single game in their qualifiers, playing three 1-1 draws before falling to a defeat against Gernot Rohr’s Benin Republic back in June.

With three points from three games, the Super Eagles are 5th in a group of six nations, four points behind South Africa, Rwanda, and the Republic of Benin.

Despite their woeful start, Gusau remained confident in the team’s abilities to turn their fortunes around, and is sure what happened in 2022 will not repeat itself.

“I have much confidence we will qualify for the next World Cup in 2026. I know we have a very bad start, having just three points from four matches, but if you look at the momentum now there is a level of progress.

Everybody knows what is at stake and we are surely going to do our best to support the team. We have just started our qualifiers for the next Nations Cup in Morocco 2025 and by the grace of God that would breakthrough to our fourth AFCON title,” the NFF President said in quotes revealed by TV360.

In the meantime, Augustine Eguavoen will lead the team in their two-legged AFCON 2025 clash against Libya. The first game will be played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, while the second game will be played next week Wednesday in Libya.

  • Canadian site is a great choice for anyone looking for a quality online game. I've been playing here for a few months now and I can say that their game selection is impressive - from classic slots to new releases, there's plenty to choose from. In addition, the interface is very user-friendly and the mobile version works without any problems. What I particularly liked was their bonus system, which allows you to get extra funds to play with. Withdrawals are also fast, which is a big plus.
