Bundesliga: Boniface proves doubters wrong in big Bayer Leverkusen win against Eintracht Frankfurt

Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface scored the vital winner for Bayer Leverkusen in their hard-fought 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.

After his disappointing display for Nigeria during the international break, Boniface returned to action for Bayer Leverkusen when they welcomed Eintracht Frankfurt to Bay Arena on Saturday.

It was expected to be a tough fixture for the defending champions as both Eintracht Frankfurt have been in free-scoring form recently.

Bayer Leverkusen had a great start to the game, as they won a penalty in the 5th minute.after Amine Adli was fouled in the box. Unfortunately, Boniface failed to convert the opportunity, as his effort to the bottom-right corner was saved.

Die Werkself later paid for that missed opportunity as Eintracht Frankfurt got their own penalty and scored courtesy of Omar Marmoush.

Nonetheless, Bayer Leverkusen showed champions stuff, with Robert Andrich scoring in the 25th minute to make it level at 1-1.

Boniface was clearly in the mood in the first half, as he got five shots off. But he failed to score. However, he got his breakthrough in the second half, and he did it with class.

The 23-year-old striker capitalized on a defensive mistake by the Eintracht Frankfurt defense and sent a header into the net to make it 2-1 after 72 minutes.

Boniface was taken off in the 80th minute and replaced by Czech star Patrik Schick. After 90 minutes of action, it ended 2-1 in Bayer Leverkusen’s favour.
