Why 45? the untold reason behind Osimhen’s surprising jersey choice at Galatasaray

Victor Osimhen has agreed a deal to join Turkish Süper Lig side Galatasaray on a four-months loan from Napoli

Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has been handed the number 45 jersey following his move to Turkish giants Galatasaray, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigerian journalist Onyebuchi Onokala reports that the Nigeria international personally chose the number, a decision rooted in his belief in its significance.

Osimhen’s first European stint at VfL Wolfsburg was challenging, as he failed to score in all 16 appearances for the German club. After this disappointing start, the 25-year-old joined Belgian club Sporting Charleroi on a season-long loan.

Wearing the number 45 jersey, Osimhen made his full debut on 22 September, scoring his first professional goal with a backheel against Waasland-Beveren.

During his time at Charleroi, Osimhen netted 12 goals in 25 appearances, marking a significant breakthrough in his career.

His impressive performances in Belgium paved the way for his subsequent success in Europe, eventually leading to a move to LOSC Lille.

Onokala now reports that the Super Eagles star specifically requested the number 45 jersey at Galatasaray, considering it his good-luck charm from his days at Charleroi. The striker hopes that the number will once again bring him fortune and success on the pitch.

Osimhen is currently in Istanbul and is slated to join the rest of the Super Eagles squad this evening as they prepare for their clash against the Benin Republic in Uyo.
