Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has expressed satisfaction following Atalanta’s goalless draw against Arsenal in their opening game of the UEFA Champions League, Soccernet.ng reports.
Lookman returned to Champions League action with Atalanta on Thursday, when they welcomed English Premier League side Arsenal to the Gewiss Stadium.
On paper, Arsenal had the better squad, albeit without their enigmatic captain Martin Odegaard. The Gunners were the favourites going into the fixture but failed to deliver the goods.
Arsenal created some good chances in the first quarter of the fixture, but they tailed off, allowing Atalanta to grow into the game.
La Dea even had a great chance to score in the second half after they won a penalty. Unfortunately for them, Mateo Retegui spurned the opportunity.
The game ended goalless at the Gewiss Stadium, as the second half saw very few chances.
As for the result, Nigerian forward Lookman, who was very quiet at night, expressed satisfaction with the result.
“It was kind of a chess match to be honest. Obviously, they [Arsenal] are a top team but we matched them which was good. We’ll take the draw and onto the next,” Lookman said.
Next up for Atalanta is a Serie A game against Como this weekend. Lookman will be looking to deliver the goods for them at the Bergamo Stadium.
