Former Turkish Super Lig Champions Trabzonspor have opened talks with Lyon over a potential transfer for Nigerian striker Gift Orban, Soccernet.ng reports.
Trabzonspor have been searching for attacking options this summer after the expiration of Paul Onuachu’s loan deal. The former Turkish champions have been in serious talks with Southampton to sign Onuachu permanent, but the price has proved to be the problem, with the Saints demanding a €13 million fee while Trabzonspor only want to pay half.
Now, it seems like the Turkish will about their attempt to sign Onuachu. This is as Sacha Tavolieri reports that Trabzonspor are seriously interested in signing Orban from Lyon.
According to the report, Trabzonspor have tabled a season-long loan offer and are willing to pay €1million for the deal. They also have a buyout clause set at €6million, but it will only be activated if Orban scores up to 20 league goals.
As at the time of this report, Lyon have not responded to the offer yet, but it is unlikely that the option buy will be accepted. Lyon paid Gent €14 million for Orban just nine months ago, and they would be unwilling to make a loss.
As such, both parties could just agree on a loan deal that would let Orban return to France at the end of the season.
