Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has revealed that he did not mean to incite Hoffenheim fans with his celebration for his first goal, Soccernet.ng reports.
Boniface was the hero for Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, helping them with two goals and one assist in their 4-1 drubbing of Hoffenheim at PreZero Arena.
However, the goal celebration for his first goal raised some eyebrows. Usually, when Boniface scores, he runs to the corner flag in a funny manner, jumps and punches the air.
But this time, the Super Eagles star ran to the corner flag, pulled his shorts down and started dancing. He also made a funny look at the fans.
It seemed like he was trying to bant Hoffenheim, but he came out to clarify his actions after the game. He stated that the celebration was a promise he made to a Nigerian influencer.
“I didn’t want to provoke anyone, I did it in front of our fans. It’s a TikTok trend from a big influencer in Nigeria. I promised him I would celebrate like that, I just hadn’t scored yet,” Boniface said.
Boniface is notorious for posting memes across all his social media pages. And he has a good relationship with many Nigerian celebrities.
