Nigerian winger Henry Onyekuru could be set for a remarkable return to Turkey after Eyupspor made an official approach to Saudi Pro League club Al Fayha for his services, Soccernet.ng reports.
Onyekuru, currently plying his trade in Saudi Arabia, is no stranger to Turkish football, having previously played for Galatasaray, where he enjoyed considerable success.
Eyupspor, a newly promoted Turkish Super Lig side managed by former Galatasaray legend Arda Turan, has made the first move to bring the Super Eagles star back to Turkey, according to reports from Milliyet as per Sabah.
The Istanbul-based club is keen to secure Onyekuru’s signature before the transfer window closes next week. While no deal has been confirmed yet, the 27-year-old forward is reportedly open to a return if the conditions are right.
Onyekuru has enjoyed success in Turkey before, scoring 20 goals in 59 appearances for Galatasaray and helping them secure a league and cup double during his time with the club.
Currently, Onyekuru, who has not featured for Nigeria since the 2021 AFCON, has netted 10 goals in 24 matches for Al Fayha in the Saudi Pro League.
If the deal goes through, it would mark a sensational return to Turkish football for Onyekuru, particularly after his fellow Nigerian, Victor Osimhen, completed a high-profile loan move to Galatasaray.
Osimhen, who is the most valuable Nigerian player in football history, was welcomed by thousands of fans upon his arrival in Istanbul, ahead of the 2024-2025 season.
Onyekuru, whose contract with Al Fayha runs until June 2025, has a current market value of €4.5 million.
His return to Turkey would strengthen Eyupspor’s ambitions as they prepare for their first season in the top flight under Turan’s leadership.
Should the deal materialise, it will mark another chapter in Onyekuru’s career, which has seen him represent clubs across Europe, including Monaco, and Olympiakos.
