The Super Falconets of Nigeria fell to a painful 3-1 defeat against Germany in their second game of the 2024 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, Soccernet.ng reports.
After an opening day 1-0 victory over South Korea at the Estadio El Techo in Bogota, it seemed like the Super Falconets were up to something. Coach Christopher Danjuma’s girls matched everything the South Korean ladies brought to the table and eventually claimed the vital three points.
Against Germany in the second game, it was always going to be a tough one, as Germany has been a thorn in Nigeria’s flesh at the under-20 female World Cup.
Germany got a dream start, as Alara Sehitler scored in the 17-minute to give the German ladies the lead. Now, it wasn’t as if the Falconets were outplayed, as they created their own chances, but they failed to convert.
The Falconets had to wait until the 51st minute before they got their goal courtesy of Chiamaka Okwuchukwu.
Unfortunately, Nigeria failed to hold on, and just ten minutes later, Germany scored again, courtesy of Sofie Zdebel. Then, in stoppage time, the German scored again through Sarah Ernst to ensure there was no way back for Nigeria.
It eventually ended 3-1 at Bogota, which puts Nigeria in a tough position as they have to win their final game against Venezuela to qualify from the group.
