Trabzonspor set to make key move in Paul Onuachu transfer issue

Former Turkish Super Lig Champions Trabzonspor have accelerated their attempts to sign Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu from Trabzonspor, Soccernet.ng reports.

Aside from Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen, Onuachu’s future has dominated transfer talks this summer due to his situation at Southampton.

The Nigerian striker joined the Saints from Genk last January after three impressive campaigns in Belgium. He was signed to aid their fight to stay afloat in the Premier League.

However, Southampton sacked Nathan Jones who was coach at the time and appointed Ruben Selles. That had consequences for Onuachu, as he lost his place in the team and spent most of his time on the bench.

Unsure of enough playing time, the Super Eagles star joined Trabzonspor last summer in a season-long loan. There, Onuachu was excellent, registering 17 goals and four assists in 25 appearances.

Due to his impressive showing last season, Trabzonspor have been in talks with Southampton to sign Onuachu permanently. But they have been unable to complete the deal due to Southampton’s demands.

The Saints value the former Genk man at €15 million, but they are willing to accept as low as €11 million. However, Trabzonspor have dragged their feet over it.

Now, in a new development, per Turkish outlet Aspor, it appears the former Turkish champions are willing to meet Southampton’s demands.

Although the Turkish transfer window closes on September 19, Trabzonspor will be looking to complete the transfer soon because the season has already started.
