Samson Siasia “appears willing” to take Mighty Jets job as FIFA ban draws to a close

Samson Siasia made his mark at French club FC Nantes, where he played a pivotal role in helping the team secure the Ligue 1 title during the 1994–95 season.

Former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia is reportedly weighing an offer to take over as the head coach of Mighty Jets, as his lengthy FIFA ban nears its end, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Nigerian football legend, sidelined from the sport due to the suspension, is on the brink of making a return to the game.

This time, he may bring his wealth of experience and tactics to the Nigerian football league for the first time in his career.

Soccernet.ng previously revealed that the Jos-based club, known for winning the inaugural Nigeria Premier Football League title, has put forward a lucrative offer of 10 million naira per month to secure Siasia’s services.

A reliable source close to the situation confirmed to Soccernet.ng that Siasia is seriously considering the proposal.

“I can confirm that Mighty Jets have tabled an offer to the coach (Samson Siasia). And the coach appears willing and interested in taking the job,” the source disclosed.

FIFA initially handed Siasia a lifetime ban in August 2019 due to alleged involvement in match-fixing. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced the ban to five years in June 2021, meaning it will expire in August 2024.

The Nigerian football community anticipates Siasia’s return to coaching, but there is growing speculation about his future role.

While many have linked him with a possible return to the Super Eagles, the offer from Mighty Jets is an opportunity for Siasia to re-establish himself in Nigerian football and make a significant impact at the domestic level.
