Super Eagles and Southampton striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu, will join Trabzonspor before the transfer window shuts in three days, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 30-year-old forward spent the 2023/2024 campaign on loan with Karadeniz Fırtınası, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists in 21 league games.
Following his impressive display, the Turkish side were keen on retaining the services of the former KRC Genk striker. They offered a €7m bid to Martin Russell’s side in an attempt to lure the Nigerian back to Turkey, but the Saints rejected the offer, as they wanted nothing less than €10m.
Trabzonspor considered the fee too high, and walked away to source for other options like Wout Weghorst, but the former Manchester United man ended up signing for Dutch giants, Ajax.
As per Sport Witness, Abdullah Avcı’s side are now back for Onuachu, and are closing in on a deal with Southampton for the 2.01m tall striker.
The striker is keen on joining the Turkish side permanently, as is the club’s president, who confirmed negotiations are in place for the lanky forward.
The report stated there are positive developments regarding Onuachu’s future at Southampton, with the deal in advanced stages. Southampton were holding out for €10m, but with the player looking surplus to requirements at St Mary’s they may now accept Trabzonspor’s offer of €7m, plus add-ons.
Trabzonspor are now confident that they can reach a deal for Onuachu and expect a positive response from the Saints before the English transfer window slams shut.
Trabzonspor have the advantage that the Turkish transfer window closes over two weeks after the English window and aren’t under pressure to get a deal done before Friday.
