Napoli eye deal for Manchester United star but pursuit hinges on Victor Osimhen’s exit as Chelsea remain poised

Napoli’s plans to bolster their midfield with Manchester United’s Scott McTominay have hit a significant hurdle, as the club’s ability to secure the Scottish international hinges on the departure of star striker Victor Osimhen, Soccernet.ng reports.

Manager Antonio Conte has convinced McTominay to join Napoli, but the move remains stalled until the Italian side can free up funds by selling Osimhen, according to Tutto Napoli.

Manchester United have made it clear they are not interested in a loan deal and have set a price tag of €25-30 million for McTominay, who made a brief appearance in United’s Premier League opener.

Napoli’s sporting director, Manna, has already been active in the transfer market, completing the sale of Jens Cajuste to Ipswich and working on acquiring Billy Gilmour from Brighton for €12 million plus €3 million in bonuses.

However, the financial muscle needed to finalise McTominay’s move is contingent on Osimhen’s exit.

However, Osimhen, one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards, remains a target for Chelsea, who are keen to bring the Nigerian star to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s interest has been longstanding, but the deal is complicated by financial fair play (FFP) regulations and Osimhen’s €130 million release clause.

Chelsea would likely need to offload Romelu Lukaku, who has expressed interest in reuniting with Conte at Napoli, to facilitate a move for Osimhen.

The potential swap deal with Lukaku could help Chelsea meet Napoli’s financial demands, setting up a high-stakes negotiation in the final days of the transfer window.
