Liverpool and Arsenal battle for Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman after PSG interest cools

Ademola Lookman has become one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market, with Liverpool and Arsenal emerging as the new frontrunners for the Atalanta forward’s signature, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Premier League giants are eager to bring the Nigerian international back to England following his stellar performances in Serie A, according to Fichajes.

Liverpool are reportedly preparing a bid for Lookman as they aim to strengthen their attack before the summer transfer window closes.

New boss Arne Slot is keen on the versatile 26-year-old, who has demonstrated his ability to play across the frontline, making him an ideal fit for the Reds’ attacking options. A move for Lookman may even be more critical, especially with ongoing uncertainties surrounding Mohamed Salah and Darwin Núñez.

Arsenal, too, are keeping a close eye on Lookman. Manager Mikel Arteta is looking to add depth to his squad, and Lookman’s impressive record of 17 goals and 10 assists last season makes him an attractive option.

However, with the clock ticking down, the Gunners will need to act swiftly to beat Liverpool to the punch.

Interestingly, these developments come after Paris Saint-Germain cooled their interest in Lookman. The French champions had considered him as a potential replacement for the injured Gonçalo Ramos but have since pulled out of the race. This has opened the door for Liverpool and Arsenal to make their moves.

Atalanta, aware of Lookman’s desire to leave, have set a price tag of €50 million on the forward. Meanwhile, they are already scouting replacements, with Fiorentina’s Nico González emerging as a prime target.

Lookman’s journey to the top has been remarkable. After a challenging spell at Everton and RB Leipzig, his move to Atalanta in 2022 proved to be the turning point.

He quickly established himself as a key player for Atalanta and played a crucial role as the Bergamo-based club lifted the Europa League title for the first time in history last May.
