After dumping Germany for Nigeria, Super Eagles star is set for Bundesliga return with Borussia Mönchengladbach keen

Nigeria international Jordan Torunarigha could be set for a transfer deadline day return to Germany two and a half years after leaving the country, Soccernet.ng reports.

Torunarigha left Hertha Berlin, where he had his youth career and turned professional, in January 2022 to join Belgium’s KAA Gent initially on a loan deal.

Gent made the move permanent in July of the same year, with Torunarigha committing to a three-year deal.

The 27-year-old has since made 108 appearances for the Belgian Jupiler League club, scoring four goals and providing five assists.

It was while at Gent that Torunarigha also decided to switch nationality to represent the Nigeria national team, having represented Germany at various youth levels, including at the Olympic Games.

The versatile defender made his Super Eagles debut in October 2023, featuring in Nigeria’s 3-2 win over Mozambique in an international friendly.

However, it appears Torunarigha’s time in Belgium is drawing to an end as the Chemnitz-born defender could be on his way back to Germany.

According to GFNG, several Bundesliga clubs – including Borussia Mönchengladbach, Hoffenheim, Eintracht Frankfurt, and VfB Stuttgart – are interested in Torunarigha.

Borussia Mönchengladbach are, however, the most likely to make a move for the Nigerian centre-back before the transfer deadline day.

A €4.50 million deal is being mooted for Torunarigha who Gent paid €3 million to acquire in 2022.

Torunarigha’s previous Bundesliga experience is coming as an added advantage as the defender has notched 73 appearances in the competition, scoring five goals and providing five assists.
