Paris 2024: Super Falcons to take on reigning Olympic champions in preparatory fixture

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will play reigning Olympic champions Canada in a preparatory game on July 17, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Super Falcons are currently camped in Seville, Spain in preparation for the upcoming Olympics games later this month.

It will be their first appearance at the Olympics since 2008, and they will be looking to make an impact at the competition this time even though they are in the same group with Brazil, Japan, and Spain, who are all in the top ten in the FIFA rankings.

As part of their preparations, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have revealed that the Super Falcons will play the reigning Olympic champions Canada on Wednesday, July 11.

Recall that both teams met in the last FIFA World Cup in 2023, and Nigeria ran out with a 1-1 draw. Canada dominated the game and even had a penalty, which was saved by Chiamaka Nnadozie.

Currently, Canada are placed 8th on the FIFA rankings. As such, the game will be a sufficient test for the Super Falcons ahead of the Olympics.

A win for Randy Waldrum’s ladies will be a morale booster and increase their confidence heading into the Olympics later this month.

Nigeria will play their first game of the Olympics against Brazil on July 25.
