Young Nigerian striker Musiliu Olayinka Odekunle has signed with Danish professional football club FC Midtjylland, following in the footsteps of many other Nigerians, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Nigerian football community has seen players like Paul Onuachu, Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, and Sylvester Igboun sign for the club early in their careers.
The strategic partnership between FC Ebedei and the Danish club, which led to the signings of Onuachu and others, has facilitated the move for 18-year-old Musiliu.
“I come with an ambition to develop as a player and build on my skills. My goal is to constantly become an even better soccer player. I look forward to being able to develop in the fantastic environment at FC Midtjylland,” said Musiliu on the club’s official page.
Former 3F Superliga coach Jonas Del also discussed the successful transition from Nigeria to Denmark, an area in which the club has proven expertise.
“It is clear that there is a transition from coming from Nigeria to Denmark, but we have a lot of experience in making new players feel at home, and I am sure that will also be the case with Musiliu.
“Musiliu enters the academy and is intended for a role in the U19 squad. Here he must do everything he can to get continuous playing time and develop as a player. This is the next step for Musiliu. He must show that he is capable of scoring goals at the U19 level,” said Jonas.
The Nigerian starlet hopes to make a name for himself, like other Nigerian football stars, and eventually play for bigger clubs in the future.
