Michael Olise set to close door on Super Eagles in pursuit of Olympic dream

Bayern Munich is close to signing Michael Olise with the transfer fee and player contract agreed, but there could be competition from Man United

Crystal Palace forward Michael Olise is set to close the door on representing his father’s home country at the international level, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 22-year-old, born in England to a Nigerian father and a French-Algerian mother, is eligible to play for England, Nigeria, France, and Algeria.

Having represented France at the youth level—France U-18 and U-21—Olise is now eyeing further representation of the country at the senior level.

According to Germany-based journalist Florian Plettenberg, Olise is considering representing France at the upcoming Summer Olympics after being snubbed for the Euro 2024 squad.

The hope of representing Nigeria was raised when Didier Deschamps omitted him from the Euro 2024 squad despite his impressive performances during his club’s 2023-24 season campaign.

Recent reports reveal that the Super Eagles-eligible forward is close to joining Bayern Munich, having agreed on a transfer fee and contract with the Allianz Arena outfit.

Bayern is aware of the situation and is contemplating the request. However, no final decision has been reached yet. As a result, Olise would be absent from Bayern’s tour to South Korea, scheduled for July 31 to August 5.

However, recent reports indicate that despite these agreements, Manchester United are looking to hijack the transfer of Olise who has also piqued the interest of the Red
