Former Manchester United and Everton forward, Wayne Mark Rooney, has made a bold claim about Nigerian striker, Muhamed Tijani, backing him to cause chaos for defenders next season, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 23-year-old joined Plymouth Argyle last month on a season-long loan from Czech side, Slavia Prague, and is keen to make an instant impact at the Championship club.
The 1.91m tall striker featured in Plymouth’s pre-season friendly 5-1 victory over Cheltenham Town, and scored a brace to put a smile on his coach’s face.
Speaking after the game, The Pilgrims’ head coach, Wayne Rooney, was delighted with Tijani’s performance, backing him for the upcoming season, while maintaining the striker still has some work cut out for himself.
“We know he’s not the finished article and that’s on us to work with him and try to improve that as well. What he is, he’s a big lad, he works hard, he’s game, he puts himself into some really good positions to score goals. I was really pleased with him getting the two goals (against Cheltenham) and he will be a real handful for defenders during the season,” the 2008 UEFA Champions League winner with Manchester United told Plymouth Herald.
Argyle ended last season a point above the relegation spots in the EFL Championships, and are hopeful for a better outing as the new season beckons.
Tijani featured for the Flying Eagles of Nigeria during the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2019, helping them to the round of sixteen where they lost to Senegal.
