“Victor Osimhen was wrong” – Ex-Everton star reacts to Napoli star’s comments on Finidi George

Victor Osimhen recently expressed his displeasure on his Social media page over a report claiming he faked an injury

Former Everton star Victor Anichebe has reacted to Victor Osimhen’s viral comments on Finidi George regarding an alleged injury ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Soccernet.ng reports.

Osimhen’s outburst on a 10-minute Instagram Live video has drawn significant media attention due to the way he spoke about Finidi, a former Nigerian international.

The Nigerian attacker was withdrawn from Finidi’s 23-man squad for the clashes against South Africa and Benin Republic following an injury he sustained during Napoli’s match against Lecce.

Reports indicated that Finidi stated he would not beg Osimhen to play for the Super Eagles, which provoked the 25-year-old’s online rant.

Anichebe, who has represented both the Olympic Eagles and the Super Eagles of Nigeria, reacted to a video shared by Colin Udoh. He criticized Osimhen for making the situation public.

“This is something we really lack in Nigeria. We just love negativity and drama. VO was wrong to come out publicly. I’m sure he understands this now, but in the heat of the moment, it’s difficult. This could’ve been done in private, even though I fully understand he doesn’t want anyone to tarnish his image and commitment that he has worked tirelessly to maintain,” he said.

The former Sunderland player also criticized the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for their handling of the Super Eagles’ coaching role and called for the organization to be disbanded.

“That being said, the whole federation is a complete and utter mess, completely clueless, lacking foresight, no clue about football. What was their hiring process? Does anyone even know? Nepotism at its finest. How can results be achieved with a leaderless bunch at the helm? The whole organization needs to be disbanded and started again,” he continued.

Although there has not been an official statement from the NFF, circulating reports confirm that Finidi has tendered his resignation due to the NFF’s silence.
